We are really excited to announce the participation of one, hopefully very long, collaboration with one of our favorite wildlife artists: Szabolcs Kókay! For some time we have been enchanted by his works and when Szabolcs immediately developed an interest in our proposal to organize an event together, we were delighted.
We organized with him a workshop of wildlife art lasting 4 days, next May, in the wonderful frame of south-eastern Sicily. During this weekend, based on a “agriturismo” in the Syracuse countryside, we will alternate observation and drawing of the birdlife.
It will not be the classic workshop, because while the participants will be busy with colors and brushes, under the guidance of Szabolcs, our ornithologists will provide them all the information necessary to learn to understand, recognize and love all the species portrayed on their tables.
For those who do not already know him, here is a brief description of the artist and, above all, a rundown of his works.
Hungarian wildlife artist of international reputation, Szabolcs Kókay has been into nature and birds since his childhood. He began his career working in Nature Conservation (Birdlife Hungary, Hungarian Ministry of the Environment, CITES) but he decided to be a full-time artist and illustrator in 2001. He has published his works in many world-famous handbooks and field guides, gaining a wide audience and winning several international art competitions (British Birds ‘Bird Illustrator of the Year’ award, Birdwatch ‘Artist of the Year’).
Although, during his career, he experienced several painting mediums its favourite has always been watercolour. He works mainly directly from life en plen air, spending on field as much time as possible. He travelled the world looking for new subjects and locations with expeditions from Trinidad, to Uganda, to New Zealand.
