Yesterday took place the second meeting about urban biodiversity organized with the “Gruppo Scout Roma 2” This time the appointment with our ornithologist Andrea Senese was held in their “den”, near the Cathedral of La Storta.
The workshop began with a brief lesson about the city birdlife and bird gardening, during which the “cubs” were able to get to know, through photos and videos, some of the most common species of Rome and some practices to host in our garden the birds that nest and winter between urban greenery and buildings.
After a first phase indoors, the group moved outdoors to place some bird feeders made in the previous days by the little nature lovers, using recycled materials. These, made of cans, sticks and ribbons, have been positioned on the surrounding trees, being careful not to make them available to cats, Corvids and pigeons.
These small “bird restaurants” will only be active for a few weeks, to be re-installed next winter. It is extremely important, in fact, to stop foraging in the spring, so as not to interfere with the migratory behavior and the reproductive season of the species.
We still thank all the scouts who enthusiastically participated in these popular but at the same time playful activities. There is no better thing than learning by playing!
