Sunday morning we re-proposed the urban birdwatching hike in Rome, among some of the most famous monuments of the capital. Despite the moderate wind, we observed 25 bird species.

Walking through the avenues of Villa Celimontana the participants learned the morphological and ecological differences of the two invasive parrot species, the Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) and the Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), and the impact they cause on native species.

Along the Lungotevere and the Tiber Island, instead, we have observed some of the most representative species of the urban river ecosystems, including Great Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) in courtship plumage a Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) which has been admired in all its elegance.

The urban trekking ended with the observation of a flock of about 30 European Serin (Serinus serinus), in search of seeds from the many herbaceous plants among the ruins of the Imperial Fora.
